Is the Kings Cages SLFXL 3221 A Good Cage For Lovebirds?
The Kings Cages SLFXL 3221 Extra Large Flight Cage is an awesome cage for small to medium-sized birds, including Lovebirds, and Cockatiels. Read on for details!
The SLFXL 3221 is a big, beautiful cage. It is available in five (5) color options. It measures 32" wide by 21" deep and stands 62" high with an inside height of 35". Bar thickness is 3mm, and bar spacing is 1/2". It weighs 50 pounds. With a slide-out metal grill and plastic tray, cleaning is easy.
Kings Cages are renowned for their durability, bird-safe construction, and quality materials. In addition to birds, other companion animals can make use of the SLFXL 3221. One such example is a sugar glider. These animals like to burrow into little pouches, which can be hung around the inside of the cage, and they often enjoy gliding from the top of the cage, down to the bottom. These cute little critters are nocturnal, so they are active at night and mostly asleep during the day. Also, when displeased, they are quite vocal. I believe they could give an angry parrot a run for their money in the noise department!
With its commodious size, the SLFXL 3221 is an excellent cage for Cockatoos, Quaker Parrots, Rainbow Lorikeets, Doves, Sun Conures, Indian Ringneck Parakeets, Senegal Parrots, and many others. Smaller birds tend to enjoy a cage with more horizontal space, where the slightly larger birds enjoy a cage with slightly more vertical space. Birds with longer tails will also enjoy more vertical space, as it helps to prevent their tail feathers from always hitting the bottom and side bars.
We're going to review this cage from bottom to top. The Kings Cages SLXFL 3221, it should be noted, comes with a stand, so the measurements for the outside height of the cage include the stand. At the very bottom of the stand, we have 4 easy-rolling casters. These make it quite easy to move the cage, either for a change of scenery or for cleaning, which should occur daily. There should be a weekly deep cleaning using a 10% bleach solution. Just above the casters, still a part of the stand, there is a wire shelf that comes in handy for storing items you use every day so that they are near at hand.
Now we'll get into the cage itself. As with most Kings Cages, the SLFXL 3221 has a slide-out plastic tray, with a slide-out metal grill above it, for easy cleaning. On the front of the cage are two (2) large doors. Both of these doors have safety latches to prevent your bird or other pet from pulling off a premature exit. The cage comes with two (2) large wooden (pine) perches. These perches can be placed at whatever level you prefer. They are made to fit inside the cage from front to back. There are two (2) plastic feeding stations, and two (2) nest box door openings.
Because this is a flight cage, it offers more room for your flying friend to get their flap on. Wing flapping, as well as flying, is excellent for working various muscle groups, as well as providing a cardio workout for birds of all types as long as they are healthy, and it is probably a good idea that a healthy bird flap or fly enough to get a little winded at least once per day. See your avian vet if you're not sure whether or not you should encourage more flapping or flying from your companion bird.
The bars on this cage are primarily vertical, but for birds that like to climb, there are a good number of horizontal bars as well. The bars are spaced at 1/2 inch (1.27cm) and they are 3mm in thickness. Be sure the bar spacing is suitable for your bird so that they can't get their head stuck between the bars. The Kings Cages SLFXL 3221 weighs 50 pounds (22.6kg) but it can be knocked down nearly flat for convenient and compact storage. It comes in a variety of color options including Black and Silver, Gray and Silver, Coppertone, Sandstone, and White. This beautiful bird home is recommended by Avian Veterinarians.
